Did you know that there are only eighty-nine orca
whales around the San Juan Islands in the Pacific Northwest.
Orca whales can be individually identified by the small mottled patch
on their back, behind the dorsal fin.
Over the years researchers have been able to identify all the orca
whale family relationships and from that have learned a lot about the
social structure of orca whales. Because the population of the
orca whale around the San Juan Islands is so small, researchers have
listed the orca whales on the endangered species list. Many of the whale
watching tour boats endeavor to educate the public on the life of the
orca whales. Whale watching boats must adhere to strict whale watching
guidelines which keep the watch watching boats at a safe distance from
the orca whales. In the Pacific Northwest there are now thirty six
whale watch companies. P.S. Express is located on the Olympic Peninsula,
and is one of the oldest whale watch companies in the Pacific Northwest.
P.S. Express actually stands for Puget Sound Express, but many in Port
Townsend think the names stands for the owners, Pete and Sherri Hanke.
Thank you again for checking out P.S. Express and we will get a message
out to you shortly.
